Antique brass openwork frame

Mora, this time with striking gold foil eyes in an antique brass openwork frame embellished with a brass bat. We’ll have this one in El Paso next weekend…unless Mike gets his way and we keep it.

Mora is a digital photo-based collage created utilizing these historical sources:

(A moroi is a type of vampire or ghost in Romanian folklore—the origins of the word are unknown but may have come from the old Slavonic word, mora, meaning nightmare.)

Kaloma by Pastime Novelty Company. Photograph. 1914
(Often wrongly believed to be Josephine Earp, Wyatt Earp’s wife; aside from the first name of Kaloma, the identity of this woman is not truly known.)

Study of a Vampire Bat by Samuel Howitt. Watercolor and graphite. Late 18th century (exact year unknown).
