Yellow-Vented Hornet

Bzzz. Replacing the 2D photo insects with some real ones in a few special framed Body of a Flower photo collage pieces for upcoming shows; this one with a yellow-vented hornet.

“I believe in process. I believe in four seasons. I believe that winter’s tough, but spring’s coming. I believe that there’s a growing season. And I think that you realize that in life, you grow. You get better.” —Steve Southerland

The Body of a Flower collage series was created utilizing Karl Blossfeldt’s stunning photographs of magnified plant surfaces from the early 20th century in conjunction with (often modern, public domain) insects and historical nudes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Body of a Flower: Yellowjacket (the original) is a human-created digital photo collage utilizing the below sources:

Allium Ostroroskianum (ornamental onion) enlarged 6 times from Urformen der Kunst by Karl Blossfeldt. Photograph. 1928

Young nude woman nude looking in mirror by Fitz W. Guerin. Photograph. 1902

Southern Yellowjacket (Vespidae, Vespula squamosa) from Insects Unlocked by Alejandro Santillana. Photograph. 2016
